Magic Kingdom Gets Smart Solar-Powered Bins

It is not the most glamorous piece of theme park news, but it is a rather clever one. Walt Disney World has rolled out its new smart, solar-powered bins at the Magic Kingdom, the latest stop in a park-wide upgrade that began over at EPCOT.

The bins are topped with a solar panel that powers an internal crusher, so they can hold far more rubbish before needing to be emptied. They also open via a foot pedal at the base, meaning guests no longer have to touch the lid, which is a welcome hygiene boost on a busy day in the parks.

Disney first trialled the design in EPCOT's Germany Pavilion back in late 2024, with Walt Disney Imagineering helping to refine them. The bins are now set to appear across all four theme parks, both water parks and beyond, so you can expect to spot these tidy little helpers on your next visit to Orlando.
