Houston based manufacturer TuffyPacks have unveiled a line of bulletproof backpacks aimed at children and young students featuring Disney characters.

The “ballistic shield” bags were aimed at being available for the “back to school” market, but sales have spiked in the U.S in the wake of the mass shootings in Texas and Ohio. The bags feature images from the Avengers and Disney Princesses, however, Disney have not given permission for the use of these characters.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney are aiming to shut down sales of these bags that feature some of their most beloved characters.

“None of these products were authorized by Disney, and we are demanding that those behind this stop using our characters or our other intellectual property to promote sales of their merchandise,” said a spokesperson for Disney.

CEO and founder of TuffyPacks Steve Naremore argues that his company have simply bought licensed fabric featuring the images from a licensed retailer, meaning they do not require Disney’s permission.

Steve Naremore has also stated that business is always busier in the days following a terror attack, and is seeing a 300 – 500 % increase.

"Our inserts are black and look kind of tactical and ballistic," Naremore says. "We use licensed fabric, to try and make them more kid friendly." He adds that Disney isn't endorsing the product and that he and his company "haven't reached out to them for support."
