Charges filed in viral Disneyland fight
Charges have been filed against three family members involved in a brawl at Disneyland which was captured on video which subsequently went viral.
According to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the fight didn't end after the family was escorted from the park. One of the men attempted to hit a Disneyland employee with his car before simulating a gun with his hand and pointing it at two members of his family, .
Avery Robinson, 35, of Las Vegas, who can be heard in the video saying, “I’m ready to go to jail tonight,” was charged with five felonies and nine misdemeanors in connection with an attack on his sister, brother-in-law and girlfriend, as well as the assault on the Disney employee, the district attorney’s office has said. The counts also include endangering four children, including his own child.
“The Orange County District Attorney’s Office does not tolerate domestic violence or child endangerment anywhere,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a press release Tuesday announcing the charges.
Also charged was Robinson’s sister Andrea Nicole Robinson, 40, who faces five misdemeanor counts for allegedly attacking her brother Avery, his girlfriend and a Disneyland employee, the DA’s office said.
Daman Petree, 44, of Compton, husband of Andrea Robinson, was charged with one misdemeanor count of battery, accused of punching Avery Robinson’s girlfriend in the face.
The Toontown melee on July 6 was captured on video and posted on YouTube, where it has since been viewed more than 2.6 million times.
In the 4½-minute video, various arguments break out among the accused, who scream profanities at one another before fists start to fly. Horrified guests watch as three women are eventually knocked to the ground. Others call for security, but before that, bystanders intervened.
A few picked up the children caught in the middle and carried them out of harm’s way. One guest put a choke hold on one of the men involved in the fight. That man was identified by the Orange County DA's office as Avery Robinson.
The video ends as Disneyland security officers arrive, when the situation was seemingly in under control. Everyone involved was escorted out of the park.
However, hostilities broke out again at the Disneyland parking garage, according to the Orange County DA’s office.
That’s where Avery Robinson tried to hit a Disney employee with his car, the DA's office said, adding that he then threatened to kill members of his family as he drove away.
He faces a maximum of seven years and four months if convicted on all charges.
